Twenty-Sixth Flutter [Video]

 [It's rare for Fluttershy to actually try to get attention, yet here she is, turning on the Pokegear as she and Twilight travel towards the next town. She swallows, then speaks... Oh, and don't mind the Murkrow that's using her pink hair as a nest.]

Um... hello... I'm sorry if I'm bothering anyone, but... I thought I'd been hearing a lot of people struggling with their Pokemon lately... And I wanted to try and help...

See, my special talent is helping animals... I can talk to them and understand them... So, I thought, maybe if anyone would like me to try... I can talk to your Pokemon, and see if I can help with any problems you might be having...

Do you need to speak to them in person, or can you do it over the network?

That's quite convenient. Would you mind speaking to my Snivy? He's refused to evolve for quite some time and I'm not entirely sure why.

[The camera focuses on a very sulky Snivy. Apparently someone didn't think to ask him about this.]

I have the same problem with my Torchic. I'm not sure what it is that's keeping them from evolving.

[She clears her throat, trying to get Snivy's attention.]

Excuse me, Snivy? Dear? Can we have a few words?

[Logan turns the camera to focus on the Snivy entirely. He still doesn't look very pleased when he responds.]

Yeah? What do you want? Look, if you're asking about that whole "evolution" stuff, it's not gonna happen! I'm never gonna evolve! Ever!

[...He's kind of rude, sorry.]

[She smiles kindly none the less.]

It's all right... No one can force you to evolve. Why don't I introduce myself... My name is Fluttershy. Is there anything you'd like to be called?

[VIDEO]

[decrees]

[That gets him to relax a little bit and he'll actually look at the camera now.]

I'm Prince. You're not going to try to talk me into evolving?

[VIDEO]

It's very nice to meet you, Prince... And that's such a nice name. And evolving isn't for everypony... I have a Togepi that hasn't evolved for over a year. She has her reasons, and you have yours. Your trainer just wants to know what those reasons are.

[...everypony...? That's... different...]

I just don't want to. My trainer's got this huge need to be protected or something since he can't defend himself here or whatever, but I can fight perfectly fine like this! I don't want to have to get used to a new form!

Garnet's the same way. She's the Torchic he was talking about. She's scared of evolving because he'll expect so much more out of her and she's not sure she can do a good enough job for him.

Oh, you poor dears... That's a lot of pressure to go through. I certainly can't blame you for feeling that way. Is it okay if I tell your trainer these feelings? I want to help the two of you understand each other.

[VIDEO]

[Prince hesitates for a moment and glances up at Logan. He finally folds his arms and huffs.]

I guess so. It's not like he's going to get any better at understanding us anyway.

...Oh, and can you thank him? For not kicking us? The other trainers he hangs out with are terrible, but he's not like that. Not that he's a very good trainer anyway, but at least he's not that horrible.

[She smiles, and nods. Now it's time to get the human's attention.]

Excuse me, sir? I know why Prince doesn't want to evolve. He and Garnet don't want to adjust to a new form... They're a little afraid of change. They're very confident they can protect you as they are now. They'd like you to stop pressuring them... Until they think they need to change in order to protect you, they'd like to stay the same.

But... they still like you very much. They say you treat them better than other trainers. So... they do want to protect you. But for now, they want to on their own pace.

[decrees]

[Logan listens to all that quietly, tipping his head slightly in acknowledgement once Fluttershy is done speaking.]

I hadn't considered that at all.

[...Obviously...]

I suppose I have been a bit hard on them. Thank you very much. This certainly explains a few things.

[She smiles warmly, though she's shyer with him than she was with Prince.]

You're welcome. It's not easy to be in this world, with things you're not used to... You and your Pokemon have to work together, one step at a time. But you're doing a good job.

[He actually seems taken aback by that last remark, and it takes him a moment to recover.]

...Thank you. I'm doing the best I can.

[This isn't the same situation he was in at home, but it's certainly nice to hear a compliment after so long.]
